Episode 42: How to Be a Writer Without Social Media Part 1: Collaborations

Do you feel as a writer that you MUST be active on social media, but you’d really rather not be? Are you hoping that there is another way to get your message out into the world?

The truth (thankfully!) is that you do NOT have to be active on social media in order to be a writer. You don’t even have to be on there at all. This is the first of a three part series on some different ways to build your writing platform apart from social media. In these episodes, I talk with Jana Carlson and Rachel Baker about how they build their writing platform either completely or partially without social media.

This week, we talk about

  • the pros and cons of social media

  • some of the myths about writers and social media

  • using different types of collaborations to get your message to your readers

Next week, we’ll talk about different types of in person events (both geographically in person and over video) and how you don’t need to be an extrovert to make it happen.

The third week we will talk about some basic, easy to apply principles of SEO (search engine optimization) that will bring more readers right to your website.
